Macarons are mini meringue sandwiches as seen on the left. They're often confused for macaroons which are a much denser cookie compared to the macaron. Macaroons (on the right) are an equally yummy coconut cookie but not as well known. Both are delicious but very different.
Here on the equator I like to think that we do have seasons. Exam season and holiday season. Unfortunately it's that time of year again when the books come out and the pressure starts rising. I'm an A-levels student and trust me when I say I know stress. Students get extremely competitive, teachers panic on your behalf and you just want to give up on everything. Exam season comes round twice a year for those in the CIE system and pretty much everybody suffers. Your social life become practically non-existent and the only reprieve you get is sleep, unless you're a stress ball like me and even your dreams are plagued with the prospect of bad grades.
Everybody tells you that these exams will determine your future, which university you'll get into, what type of job you could get, how much you'll get paid, it's like if you mess up here then you've messed up your whole life. For all I know they could be right so panic seems like an appropriate emotion during this period. Unfortunately this is something we all have to deal with and all we can do is try our best and hope we get lucky.
Lafite at Shangri-La is probably one of my favourite restaurants in KL. Two Fridays ago my mum and I went for lunch at we weren't disappointed. I had a foie gras terrine salad, duck breast with foie gras and a deconstructed apple pie with a scoop of apple sorbet. By the end of the meal I was absolutely stuffed and I could feel my cholesterol levels raising but when a meal is this good who cares.
